Amethyst is a variant of the mineral Quartz. Amethyst and the colour purple have a long history with Royalty. It was once considered so valuable it was included in the cardinal gemstones along with Diamond, Sapphire, Ruby and Emerald.  

Properties: Amethyst is often refered to as 'the stone of peace'. It is  considered to be a natural stress reliever and is said to harbour protective and stabilising properties.
